Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli reveals why he left other families furious after rushing his daughter to the ER following a medical emergency

Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli has revealed his snoring almost caused a fight with another man while at the hospital after his daughter was rushed to the ER.

Speaking to Nine Honey on Friday, the Nova FM radio star explained that his daughter Francesca, three, had recently suffered complications from a tonsil removal and had to go to the emergency room.

Wippa said he ended up annoying other families who were sharing the same room as him, after he fell asleep and began snoring loudly.

‘[One man said] ‘Oh, mate, we were getting so angry during the night until we realised it was you,” Wippa said.

‘We listen to the show, we’re from Wollongong, and all the stories are true. You are a terrible snorer. It was like a train coming through the hospital.’

Wippa and wife Lisa rushed Francesca to the hospital after Lisa noticed she was swallowing a lot.

‘Lisa had read in the information that if they’re lying in bed and they start swallowing a lot, there’s a good chance they’re bleeding at the back,’ Wippa said.

‘So Lisa says, ‘I think she might be bleeding’, so I go upstairs and we turn on the light, and there’s blood everywhere! So Lisa’s having a panic attack and I’ll say ‘I’ll handle this”.

The couple rang an ambulance and Francesca was sent to hospital immediately.

‘I would much rather him be a healthy version of himself than have some sort of brain aneurysm because of the lack of oxygen,’ she said.

Sleep apnoea occurs when a person’s throat is partly or completely blocked while they are asleep.

It is treated by using a continuous positive airway pressure pump (CPAP), which feeds pressurised air into a face mask to hold the person’s throat open as they sleep.

In November, Lisa and Wippa opened up about their sleeping struggles.

The mother-of-three revealed she was left exhausted when their daughter Francesca struggled with sleeping.

‘She didn’t know how to settle herself. We would have to lie on the floor and hold her hand until she fell asleep,’ Lisa said.

‘I was doing that four or five times a night. It’s constantly living as a half version of yourself. I would look in the mirror and think, I’m a shell of myself.’

Wippa has been married to Lisa for nine years. Together they share three children, sons Theodore, eight, and Jack, six, and daughter Francesca, three.
