Miley Cyrus fights back tears while performing her hit Wrecking Ball at a Super Bowl concert

Miley Cyrus turned out an emotionally charged performance of her hit single Wrecking Ball at a Super Bowl pre-game concert in Florida on Sunday.

The 28-year-old singer had stepped up to the microphone to perform the 2013 song at the TikTok Tailgate concert when she broke down in tears and needed to stop.

As she sang the lyrics, ‘Don’t you ever think, I just walked away, I will always want you’, Miley’s voice went quiet and began to crack.

She then sniffed, before bowing her head and attempting to compose herself for the rest of the song.

‘I came in…’ she began, before trailing off and taking another moment, wiping tears from her eyes as her band played on.

After missing most of the chorus, Miley was finally able to finish the song, explaining her meltdown to the audience.

‘I wear a lot of glitter and I wear a lot of armour, but I also wear my heart on my sleeve, and it gets broken a lot,’ she told the crowd.

Wrecking Ball is widely rumoured to be about her ex-husband, Liam Hemsworth, who she split from in August 2019 after only eight months of marriage.

In a candid interview with Howard Stern in December, Miley admitted she still loves the 31-year-old Hunger Games actor ‘very, very much’.

The We Can’t Stop singer insisted she will ‘always’ love Liam and said: ‘I really do and did love him very, very, very much and still do, always will.’

But Miley admitted there was ‘too much conflict’ in their relationship for them to be able to sustain it.

‘When I come home, I want to be anchored by someone. I don’t get off on drama or fighting,’ she added.

Miley also spoke about her relationship with the Isn’t It Romantic actor on the Call Her Daddy podcast in August last year, admitting their split felt ‘like a death’.

‘I had a very public, very big breakup that was over a 10-year span of a relationship… It’s like a death when you lose a love that deep. It feels like a death,’ she confessed.

She added: ‘Honestly, sometimes [death] even feels easier because [with a breakup] the person is still walking on the earth.’
