Moment pro-Palestine protestors interrupt Jill Biden during Human Rights Campaign dinner as security rip down their ‘ceasefire now’ banners and force them to leave event

  • Protesters chanted ‘ceasefire now’ with a ‘queer Jews say ceasefire now’ banner
  • Dozens more protesters made a scene outside the venue with the same demand

Pro-Palestine protesters have interrupted a speech by First Lady Jill Biden to demand a ceasefire from Israel’s campaign in Gaza.

Dr Biden was addressing the Human Rights Campaign’s 2024 Los Angeles Dinner on Saturday night when the protest suddenly erupted.

Protesters unfurled a banner reading ‘queer Jews say ceasefire now’ and began loudly chanting ‘ceasefire now’ until security intervened.

Security guards pulled down the banner and forced the handful of protesters to leave. It was not clear how they got inside.

Dr Biden’s supporters drowned out the protest chanting by yelling ‘four more years’ in reference to Joe Biden’s election campaign.

The first lady paused her speech during the commotion but merely continued her remarks with no reference to the protest when it was over.

Dozens more protesters made a scene outside the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel in Century City, waving Palestinian flags and chanting ‘long live Palestine’.

Israel and Hamas are actively discussing a lengthy ceasefire to release hostages and deliver aid to civilians, but have so far been unable to agree on terms.

The event gave awards to actors Jean Smart and Sterling K Brown for their work in promotion LGBTQ equality.

Dr Biden is on a fundraising tour through Southern California, starting on Friday with an event at the home of Dr Patricia Gordon in Hancock Park that raised $1 million.

Earlier on Saturday she spoke at another fundraiser at Rancho Mirage, the Thunderbird Heights home of former US ambassador to Spain James Costos.

‘With his judgment and his experience and his relationship with leaders across the globe, Joe isn’t just the right person for the job, he’s the only person for the job,’ she said at that event.

‘MAGA Republicans are waging battles over our choices, our futures, and trying to drag us back to a dark and dangerous path.

‘We are the first generation in half a century to give our daughters a country with fewer rights than we had. But we won’t let the MAGA Republicans win this fight.’

The president has a massive financial advantage over his opponent Donald Trump, but is behind in most national polls.
