Mother-in-law sparks outrage for wearing a white dress to her son’s wedding

Debate sparked over ‘selfish’ mother-in-law’s ‘crazy’ wedding outfit: ‘Surely she can’t be serious’

  • Woman wears near-white dress to her son’s wedding
  • She was slammed for stealing the bride’s spotlight
  • Family members say she is ‘clueless’ to the wedding faux-pas

A mother-of-the-groom has caused a stir for wearing a ‘bridal’ inspired dress to her son’s wedding.

The mum chose to wear a near-white champagne-coloured floor length floral dress to walk her son down the aisle leaving thousands divided over how appropriate it was.

Before the wedding, the woman shared what she was planning to wear in a group message chat with some female family members and the bride who felt as if she ‘couldn’t say no’.

The bride’s sister then shared the outfit choice online to gather opinions on whether it was appropriate or not.

Many slammed the mother-in-law, accusing her of trying to steal attention away from the bride on her big day which happened last year.

Thousands have been let in disbelief after a mother-in-law wore a very bride-like dress to her son’s wedding. She was slammed for trying to steal the spotlight from the bride

‘I mean, if the theme is ‘everyone wear a wedding dress’ then she nailed it. If it’s literally any other wedding theme this is absolutely wildly inappropriate,’ one person joked in a Reddit post.

‘Surely they can’t be serious, absolutely not,’ another said while a third replied: ‘Straight to jail’.

‘Is this a joke? Who is going to be the person assigned to spill red wine on this dress?’ someone else asked.

‘She was 100 per cent intentionally trying to upstage your sister. She was on some type of power trip with this being her first-born’s wedding,’ a woman chimed in.

Following the backlash, the sister said the mother-in-law was ‘sweet’ but wanted to see if others thought the dress was a ‘crazy’ choice like she and the bride thought.

‘They’re a close family and they all get along with my sister, before and after the wedding! She’s a super sweet lady but it was just such an odd choice and came out of left field,’ she responded.

‘I think she was just clueless to social expectations. The wedding was in Mexico so I think she thought the dress was beachy, golden and not white so it would be okay.’

Poll

Was the mother-in-law’s dress wedding appropriate?

Many wondered whether anyone said anything to the woman about her dress at the wedding.

‘She sent the dress in a group chat including her daughter, my sister, and the other daughters-in-law,’ the sister said.

‘I’m not sure who responded first but someone said ‘cute!’ And my sister felt like she couldn’t tell her no.’

She added the groom is the youngest of five sons and his mother has worn ‘similar dresses’ to his brothers’ weddings.

‘You have to live on Mars not to realise this is is entirely inappropriate. I would have been p***ed,’ one woman said.

‘I imagine there was a lot of side eye and whispering. And probably a few discreet photos for similar posts or messages to friends saying ‘What the? Not at my wedding,’ a second wrote.

‘I equate wearing a very obvious wedding dress to a wedding that isn’t yours to announcing your pregnancy at a baby shower. Both technically allowed, but it makes you an a*****e to do it,’ someone added.
