‘We’re all going to be exposed’: Mother fights against the rollout of 5G – as she claims it will make people sick despite reassurances from experts

  • A mother-of-three has launched a public campaign to prevent the rollout of 5G
  • Lis Martinac claimed rollout will require more cell sites, which increase radiation
  • She started a petition after researching the possible effects on health in her town
  • Experts have debunked Ms Martinac’s claims saying 5G will not make people sick

A mother-of-three has launched a public campaign to prevent the roll out of 5G in her community, which she claims will make people sick.

New Zealand woman Lis Martinac started a petition on Change.org last month after she researched the possible effects of cellphone towers and 5G radiation on health.

She raised her concerns on the platform because she was concerned the rollout would require more cell sites in her home town of Mangawhai, north of Auckland.

‘I’m concerned that we’re all going to be exposed to this new technology – that’s been untested – 24 hours a day,’ Ms Martinac told 1 News.

Ms Martinac said her concerns were triggered by a social media post she read that questioned whether more cell sites would result in increased radiation in the area.

‘I researched further because I wanted some sort of assurance that this post wasn’t true. The more I researched it, the more horrified I became,’ she said.

The petition, which has garnered more than 800 signatures so far, states, ‘5G will massively increase the microwave and millimeter wave radiation in our environment.

‘It will also use new frequencies that are not evaluated by experts independent from industry as to their safety.’

The architectural designer isn’t the only one who has questioned the potential effects of the 5G roll out.

In April, 5G tests were stopped in Brussels, Belgium due to anti-radiation laws.

But according to Associate Professor Mark Gregory, from the School of Engineering at RMIT University, there is no evidence 5G will detrimentally affect health.

‘There are a number of unsubstantiated claims doing the rounds, similar to the anti-vaccination stories that do the rounds,’ Professor Gregory told Daily Mail Australia on Thursday.

‘We have the same unsubstantiated claims every time a new version of mobile cellular is about to be rolled out.’

Associate Professor Philip Branch, from the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology at Swinburne University of Technology, agrees with Professor Gregory.

‘I’m not aware of any studies showing there is a problem,’ Professor Branch told Daily Mail Australia.

‘The signal strengths are so low and we are bathed in non-ionizing radiation all the time that it would be remarkable if there was an issue,’ he said.

Despite claims circulating on the internet that 5G is a government conspiracy, Ms Martinac said she doesn’t agree with the theory.

‘No, I don’t believe it is. We just want our health and safety assured,’ she said.

Daily Mail Australia has reached out to Ms Martinac for comment.
