Mystery as man dies in a raging house fire in a quiet coastal town – as cops probe whether the blaze was lit on purpose

  • NSW Police responded to report of a break-in and fire at a home in Bombaderry 
  • They arrived at 10.40pm on Friday and found the home consumed in flames
  • Firefighters extinguished the blaze and pull out an unresponsive man, 49
  • The man died at the scene and police are treating his death as suspicious  

A man has died after a devastating house fire, which police believe may have been deliberately lit.  

Emergency services responded to a report of a break-in and fire at a home in Bomaderry, north of Nowra at about 10.40pm on Friday. 

Police were met with a confronting scene, with a man still stuck inside the burning house, with the fire destroying the property and a nearby car. 

Firefighters pulled the unresponsive 49-year-old man out of the home and despite many CPR attempts by paramedics, he died at the scene.

A second man was able to flee the home and was uninjured. 

Officers have established a crime scene which will be examined by specialist forensic police. 

Police said they are treating his death as suspicious and have called in homicide detectives.
