New York City Westin hotel bringing back $1,000 bagel

New Yorkers with expensive tastes will be able to get their mouths around a $1,000 bagel next month and donate money to charity by feasting on the pricey treat.

The Westin New York hotel in Times Square is bringing back the extravagant bagel by executive chef Frank Tujague for a limited time after it first appeared in the fall of 2007.

The bagel, which will be sourced from a local bakery, will be spread with Alba white truffle cream cheese and topped with goji berry-infused Riesling jelly and golden leaf flakes, per NBC NY.

According to the hotel, white truffle is the second most expensive food in the world after caviar.

Indeed, white truffles are only available for a few months of the year and come almost exclusively from the Piedmont area in Italy.

They have to be found by specially trained pigs, or sometimes dogs, Time has reported.

They’ve been known to go for a whopping price of $2,000 a pound.

The largest emergency food program in the city, located in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, serves nutritious meals to about 1,000 homeless New Yorkers every day, according to their website.

The $1,000 bagel will be offered from November 1 through December 15 and must be ordered 24 hours in advance.

It will be available via 24-hour room service or at the Foundry Bar at the hotel during breakfast hours, according to Forbes.
