No-nonsense Canadian TV star unleashes at Raygun – saying what Aussie hosts wouldn’t dare to

Canadian TV hosts have slammed Australian breakdancer Rachael Gunn, suggesting she stick to lecturing at university instead.

Gunn, 36, better known as Raygun, lost all three round-robin battles at the Games by a combined score of 54-0.

The controversial performance featured kangaroo hopping, slithering like a snake and even using the iconic Aussie ‘sprinkler’ move.

The dance has sparked heated debate as critics question how she qualified to perform, and she even became a topic of discussion on Canadian TV show ‘The Social’.

Host Andria Bain said Raygun’s routine had stunned her family.

‘We were like what? Is she doing a kangaroo? Is that the can opener? What is happening here?’ she said of her family’s reactions.

‘I think the bigger problem here is that we were looking at these athletes and we were marveling like, look how big, look how strong.

‘We saw every type of body type, we saw incredible physical feats and then this woman came out and she made us feel like, I guess we’re all Olympians right? Cause we can all get down on the floor and do weird stuff and pretend to yawn.’

Comedian Arthur Simeon was less than impressed

Comedian Arthur Simeon (pictured right) said Raygun – who is a university researcher specialising in the ‘cultural politics of breakdancing’ – should stick to her day job

The embattled breakdancer, 36, (pictured performing at the Olympics) was a hot topic of conversation on the Canadian daytime television talk show The Social this week

Comedian Arthur Simeon said Raygun, who is a university researcher at Macquarie University specialising in the ‘cultural politics of breakdancing’, should stick to her day job.

‘If it was a 17-year-old still trying to figure out their life, this woman is 36-years-old. At some point your friends have to come in and be like “don’t do this”,’ he said.

‘She’s a college professor,’ another host said.

‘What does she teach? It better not be break dancing,’ Bain shot back.

‘It is break dancing,’ Simeon replied.

‘Which brings a whole new meaning to those who can’t teach.’

It was revealed on Wednesday that Raygun will remain in Europe for a holiday with her husband and coach as her fellow Olympians touched down in Australia.

Raygun won her category in the 2023 Breaking Oceania Championships last September which saw her qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Australia’s Olympic chief Anna Meares have defended Raygun, saying she had captured the Aussie spirit of ‘having a go’.
