Novak Djokovic gets away from it all on family holiday in Croatia after his shattering Wimbledon final loss

Novak Djokovic has been spotted on a family holiday in Croatia less than a week after his devastating loss in the Wimbledon final.

The tennis pro – who has won 23 grand slams throughout his career – was seen chilling out on his boat, walking around in shorts and a simple white tee.

The star player, from Serbia, had his yacht, named Tara presumably after his daughter, anchored of front of Copacabana beach, in Dubrovnik.

His getaway comes almost a week after he was defeated by Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz on Centre Court, who is 16 years junior.

It saw Djokovic fly into a rage and smash his tennis racket in frustration against a net post – a stunt that saw him fined £6,117. The sum was deducted from his runner-up cheque of £1.175m.

Djokovic lost more than a final that day. He lost out on his chance to equal Roger Federer’s record of winning eight Wimbledon men’s singles titles and lost the of drawing level with Margaret Court’s record of 24 Grand Slam singles titles.

The blow also saw him waving farewell to the prospect of becoming the first man for more than 50 years to complete the Calendar Slam of Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open in the same year. This is an opportunity unlikely to pass his way again.

And now with Alcaraz has come of age, Djokovic may find his chances of adding more grand slams to his collection dwindling.

The 20-year-old world number one took full advantage to seal a 1-6 7-6 (6) 6-1 3-6 6-4 victory after four hours and 42 minutes.

For a long time, the player had been as one who defied time, but as he headed into the match’s fifth set, many said he was starting to look old.

He had stopped running for some of Alcaraz’s shots and was seen stretching out his aches.

Prior to Sunday’s game he had one 15 consecutive tiebacks and was hoping to gain one more.

The last time he had lost on Centre Court was the 2013 Wimbledon final when Murray was on the other side of the net – which was considered a blip for Djokovic.

Escaping his woes, however, the tennis star with his wife and two children, a son and a daughter, are sailing around the Adriatic coast.

Local news papers reported that he first stayed in Montenegro before moving west towards Croatia.

It is not the first time the athlete has graced the waters. He is one of a string of celebrities known to visit the Croatian coast regularly, for work and for pleasure.

Last year after his Wimbledon win that saw him dubbed ‘the greatest tennis player of all time’ he also headed to Dubrovnik with his brother, happily posing for photos with eager fans.
