Unilever’s Alan Jope last week became the 19th to announce a departure in 2022, close to the record figure of 24 in 2020 when Covid struck.
Rolls-Royce’s chief Warren East, Prudential’s Mark FitzPatrick and Whitbread’s Alison Brittain have all baled this year.

‘The ‘Great Resignation’ has shown no discrimination towards the size of company or seniority,’ said Derren Nathan, head of equity research at Hargreaves Lansdown, who compiled the data.
He added: ‘The storm clouds stubbornly hanging over the global economy may well have influenced some of these captains’ decisions to jump ship.’
One City adviser said: ‘It’s miserable being a CEO of a FTSE company.
‘The press gives them such a hard time and they make ten times less than they would in the US. There’s scarcity and a talent drain.
