NYFW model walks the runway holding garbage

The designers behind the label Vaquera took street style too a whole other level when they sent a model carrying trash down the runway during their New York Fashion Week show.

For their Spring/Summer 2018 collection, which they showed on Tuesday in the basement at Church Street Boxing Gym, designers Patric DiCaprio, Bryn Taubensee, David Moses, and Claire Sully were inspired by the concept of an identify crisis, as well eclectic parts of Los Angeles.

Vaquera’s latest collection featured plenty of thought-provoking looks — including a dress made out of credit cards and a model strutting down the catwalk holding plastic grocery bags.

‘We went to L.A. and we got really inspired by California vibes, and we wanted to work that into the collection,’ Taubensee told The Hollywood Reporter during a post-show interview.

‘The overarching theme of the collection is an identity crisis, and I think we realized that when we started to talk about California, we were in the middle of an identity crisis.’

The male model who appeared to be carrying trash exposed his chest in a yellow and blue striped dress that tied at the waist and featured a deep-V that exposed a portion of his chest.

He was sporting a thin mustache and what appeared to be broken sunglasses that were missing one lens, and that wasn’t his only unique accessory.

The model was also carrying a plastic water bottle under his arm, multiple plastic bags from Key Foods grocery store, and an Amazon Prime paper bag.

The designers found inspiration in L.A. while visiting tourist locations such as the Walk of Fame and Venice Beach.

The plastic cards are a spoof of Los Angeles’ most iconic destination. Instead of Hollywood sign the backdrop sees the brand’s name instead.

Many of the ensembles modeled in Vaquera’s show seemed to reflect the anything goes attitude of the Venice Beach Boardwalk, which features spray-painted buildings, artists, healers, and beachgoers alike.

One man rocked an oversized T-shirt featuring a drawing of Abraham Lincoln along with a large cowboy hat made out of a fabric collage of American license plates.

When asked about the Lincoln shirt, Moses explained to The Hollywood reporter that the former president is ‘the fourth most famous person in the world, according to Google’.

But one of the most comfortable look by far was the fluffy oversized white robe that one model hit the catwalk in.
