Pacific Rim: Uprising knocks Black Panther out of first place

Pacific Rim: Uprising, which premiered March 23, has knocked Black Panther out of first place in the domestic box office.

The sci-fi feature film brought in a whopping $28 million over the course of its debut weekend, while Black Panther brought in $16.7 million, according to AFP. 

The movie stars John Boyega and Scott Eastwood.

He is reunited with his estranged sister, Mako Mori, and they are forced to battle a rising evil.

In an interview with Build, Boyega talked about how he ‘jumped at the opportunity’ to co-produce the action-packed sequel.

‘In 2015 Star Wars Force Awakens came out and I used the funds that I earned on the movie to develop a team of people and to form a company called UpperRoom Productions,’ he explained. 

‘I wanted to create opportunities for myself. You get creative control from the beginning all the way from casting to marketing and I wanted to be apart of it.’ 

This is Boyega’s first production credit.
