Paul Pogba won’t feature for Juventus until January with midfielder to undergo knee surgery

Paul Pogba is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after Juventus confirmed that the midfielder will undergo knee surgery.

Pogba returned to Juventus this summer following his departure from Manchester United but suffered a meniscus injury during pre-season.

Juventus manager Max Allegri revealed that Pogba is not likely to feature for his team until January. 

Pogba returned to training for a second time on Monday but was unable to complete the session.

Allegri said: ‘This morning Paul Pogba trained for the second time, but then stopped, and it was then decided that he undergo surgery. We will realistically get him back in January.’

Pogba’s absence will raise doubts about whether he will be able to feature for France in the World Cup in Qatar, which takes places between November 20 and December 18.

Towards the end of his time at United Pogba endured frustration with injury issues – he struggled with calf and hamstring problems last season.

This latest setback represents a significant blow for Pogba, who is attempting to start performing consistently again after his difficulties at United.

During his initial spell at Juventus between 2012 and 2016 Pogba played 178 times for Juventus and scored 34 goals.

Pogba won four Serie A titles in addition to two Coppa Italias and one Supercoppa Italiana.

If Pogba was to miss out on the World Cup it would be a bitter blow for the 29-year-old, who helped his country to win the last edition of the tournament in 2018.
