While CVS customers can opt for digital receipts that are emailed to the recipient, many still choose to have a paper copy printed out.
And now customers who have been subjected to super long receipts filled with coupons and special offers are finding the funny side by comparing them to Meghan Markle’s 16-foot Cathedral length veil.
Taking to Twitter, comedian J. Cyrus contributed to the viral trend by posing a picture of Meghan and Harry exiting the church with the caption: ‘when you marry a cvs receipt’.
Viral: People are taking to Twitter to compare Meghan Markle’s 16-foot Cathedral length veil to a CVS receipt
Extra: While CVS customers can opt for digital receipts that are emailed to the recipient, many still choose to have a paper copy printed out
Waste: And customers who do choose the printed version are usually subjected to super long receipts filled with coupons and special offers
Similarities: One Twitter user cleverly made a meme out of Meghan’s veil by placing a receipt on top
While Twitter user @EvilERUeady posted a picture of Meghan entering the church, followed by her two pageboys alongside a picture of a CVS receipt.
‘Really loved how Meghan Markle put a bit of America in her dress by having a train almost as long as a CVS Pharmacy receipt when becoming the Duchess of Sussex. #RoyalWeddding,’ shw wrote.
For Twitter user @Debsam1760, the comparison offered her the opportunity to get creative with PhotoShop and she transformed a picture of Meghan’s veil into an actual receipt.
‘I can’t turn down a good CVS receipt meme,’ she added.
Twitter user @NikkiAmy captioned the same meme but offered: ‘Woowww…. $5 off on the shampoo I like!!’
And @narcarcasm simply captioned a shot of the couple inside the church, standing at the alter with the words: ‘That’s the CVS receipt of veils. #RoyalWedding’.
Created by British designer Clare Waight Keller, Meghan’s veil didn’t just bear an uncanny resemblance to CVS receipts – it officially acted as also a nod to British heritage and featured a trim of hand-embroidered flowers from each of the 53 counties in the Commonwealth.
A rose, a daffodil and a thistle represent England, Wales and Scotland, along with the golden wattle of Australia and the white-water lily of Bangladesh. Singapore is represented by an orchid and Pakistan by jasmine.
And this isn’t the first time CVS receipts have gone viral.
In May 2016 CVS president Helena Foukles appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! To announce that CVS was moving its receipts from paper to digital following an onslaught of people posting pictures of their long receipts on social media.
Trentd: This isn’t the first time CVS receipts have gone viral – people have been complaining about the length of CVS receipts for years
Excessive: One man recently shared that his CVS receipt for one Redbull was excessively long
Joker: Another woman joked that she needed a bag for her CVS receipt
Experience: Another woman shared that she felt like getting a long receipt is ‘half the experience’ of going to CVS
In the pictures, the receipts filled with coupons for buying a couple of items measured up to four-foot long.
However, in January, Jimmy Kimmel was forced to put the retailer on blast for not making good on its earlier promise to shorten its receipts.
Showing a picture of a hilariously long receipt belonging to one of his writers he said: ‘I thought we fixed this! Don’t make me boycott CVS. I’m putting you back on notice, CVS. Don’t make us sign up for your stupid rewards club to get a smaller receipt, either.’
And others have continued to share their extra long receipts on social media.
On May 20, @TommyNadra1 posted a picture of a long receipt with the caption: ‘My cvs receipt for one Red Bull!!!!’
A similar experience to @PaigeClarno who joked: ‘CVS employee: Would you like a bag for your drink? Me: No, but maybe for the receipt’.
