People reveal the everyday upgrades that are irresistible

Sometimes splashing out on an upgrade puts an financial stranglehold on you.

Because you can never go back to the economy version.

A discussion on this matter has set an internet forum alight, with over 17,000 comments flooding in to debate the merits of paying more for better butter, Merino wool socks and quilted toilet paper.

One Reddit user joked how he made the ‘mistake’ of having sushi in Tokyo – and now he can’t find a restaurant with the same high quality products

The debate was kickstarted on Reddit by member Bogey-Yogi, who asked: ‘What item once you get a taste of the luxury version, means you can’t go back to the economy version?’

And many of the first responses were about luxury food items where the cheaper version just cannot compare.

One user, 2_Sheds_Jackson, said: ‘Sushi. Made the “mistake” of having sushi dinner in Tokyo. It is tough to find a suitable restaurant now.’

While Tragic16 added: ‘Had real Belgian chocolate once. Nothing else comes close.’

Redditor SmoothPebble threw out every pair of cotton and synthetic material socks - after trying a pair made from Merino wool

And octohoof also talked about chocolate, explaining: ‘My dad brought home some French chocolate truffles from a party. $42/oz. It was really hard to go back to Hershey’s after that.’

Fellow forum member killistaflockhard said: ‘Not a luxury item necessarily, but real-ass good butter. Grew up using margarine, made an Irish friend in college, started buying Kerrygold, now I can’t stop.’

And hobbes_shot_first said nothing could compare to real Mexican food – not even Chipotle or Taco Bell.

When it came to cheese, gedden8co said there was no comparison to real parmesan, while CowHaterGaming said he couldn’t eat any other popcorn than the cheese version from a gourmet popcorn shop.

Another forum member said they couldn't go back to regular toilet paper after using the soft quilted version

While another Reddit user said: ‘I got gifted a bag of 100 per cent Jamaican Blue Mountain, and it ruined every other coffee for me. Too bad I can’t afford it. So I make do with a blend. Still not quite the same.’

For others, having a luxury experience at the toilet was important, especially for ‘xxxx’, who claims they had a Korean bidet installed in their bathroom.

They added: ‘Heated spray with oscillation, heated seat, little blow dryer, good god.

‘I’ve got a regular non-heated bidet in the other bathroom that I used happily for years. It is now for emergency use only.’

And curioustriangle said: ‘Toilet paper. The soft, quilted, expensive type is bliss.’

Another user, d-d-d-dirtbag, explained how he can never go back to a car without air conditioning but for feketefy, he will never buy a vehicle without heated seats.

Upgraded air travel, especially when older, was another thing that was mentioned in the Reddit thread

Upgraded air travel, especially when older is one thing ChilrenOfAnEldridGod cannot live without.

While ‘absurded’ added that buying a normal seat in the cinema was not an option anymore after enjoying watching movies in a posh theater with recliner chairs and food and alcohol delivered to one’s seat.

And Redditor SmoothPebble threw out every pair of cotton and synthetic material socks – after trying a pair made from Merino wool.

But one of the most unusual ‘luxury items’ was added by one forum member who said it was his train simulator addons.

He said: ‘The animated cabs, realistic physics and reverser locks have me hooked.’
