Perth man sexually abused daughter, 11, was caught after police found footage from living room CCTV

An 11-year-old girl was sexually abused by her stepfather who was caught by his own CCTV in the family’s lounge.

The man, 39, and the girl’s mother, 37, who cannot be identified, were convicted on Thursday for a series of sick and depraved crimes at the house in Perth last year.

Detectives discovered the girl had been subjected to 14 sick attacks where the man acted out his fantasies on the girl.

Security cameras inside the home also caught the couple carrying out sexual acts on the sofa while the children sat just inches away, the West Australian reports.

Police reviewed the footage after fears for the girl’s safety were raised by teachers at her school, Perth District Court heard.

The sexual predator carried out the abuse while the girl’s mother was in another room.

His lawyer told the court his client believed he deserved to be punished with a prison sentence.

On one occasion, the man was seen playing with his partner’s exposed breasts with a fork as the girl and her brother sat watching television.

The girl’s mother had been to see teachers at her daughter’s school just hours before that incident last February.

Teachers notified police, who inspected the CCTV system which was said to have been installed to detect a suspected burglar, the court heard.

Prosecutors told the court the man had initially targeted his partner’s older daughter.

The court heard he had molested the older girl and harassed her through a string of text messages.

But he then made his advances to her younger sister when she rejected him.

Prosecutor Clare Stanyer told the court the attacks were ‘bold and brazen’ given the presence of cameras.

Ms Stanyer added that during police interviews asking if the girl had ‘overpowered’ him, the man claimed he had been ‘in a way’, the court heard.

The couple, who have since ended their relationship, admitted the charges and will be sentenced later in the year.
