PICTURE EXCLUSIVE: Elton John, 76, gets a helping hand from bodyguard as he boards yacht with sons Zachary, 12, and Elijah, 10, in France

Elton John received a helping hand from one of his bodyguards as he boarded a yacht while on a family holiday in the South of France on Wednesday.

The singer, 76, was joined by his husband David Furnish, 60, and their children Zachary, 12, and Elijah, 10.

Elton cut a casual figure for the outing as he sported a light blue striped shirt along with a pair of green Gucci shorts.

The musician completed his look for the day with a pair of white trainers and stylish bejewelled sunglasses.

Elton is clearly making the most of his retirement from touring following his final show of the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour in July.

The tour, which began in 2018, was a resounding success for Elton and grossed $816,840,988 worldwide.

The star has chosen to hang up his boots, citing a desire to spend more time with David and their kids.

He said: ‘Touring is exhausting for me now, and it takes me away from my family and my children.’

However, Elton added that he hasn’t given up performing for good and will likely still play ‘the odd show’ every now and then.

Family is important to Elton who previously called his sons ‘the greatest thing’ in he and husband David’s lives.

Speaking on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2016, he said: ‘If you’d had said to me 10 years ago I’d be sitting on your show married to the man I love and have two beautiful children I would have said, “You put acid in my drink.”

‘But life throws you challenges and life throws you curveballs — great curveballs — and these two children have come along at a time I never thought I’d have children.

‘There’s no words to describe how much we love these boys. They’re just amazing.’

On his 75th birthday, Elton wrote a letter to his sons published in Time magazine where he called them his ‘proudest achievements’.

He wrote: ‘Zachary and Elijah, you two are the greatest gifts I have ever been given.

‘You have filled my heart with love and my life with purpose and meaning in ways I didn’t think were possible.

‘You are my proudest achievements, and I love you both so, so much … Whoever you grow up to be, just be you — fully and completely you.’
