Plus-size model Kate Wasley, 25, reveals why she posted a photo she didn’t want you to see

Plus-size model Kate Wasley has shared a candid photograph of her body that she initially didn’t want to share with the world.

The 25-year-old from Perth – who has modelled for the likes of Sports Illustrated – posted two snaps of herself by the beach on Instagram on Monday, along with a post about how she has learned not to stress so much about how her body looked.

‘I remember looking at these photos when they were first taken and thinking, I wish I had of worked out harder before this trip,’ Kate wrote.

‘Looking back now I think DAMN GIRL you were looking fine, as if you wasted your energy worrying about your body and not indulging on this holiday cause [sic] you were self conscious.’

Kate continued to say that if she is feeling this in ‘just a few years’, she can’t imagine how differently she will feel in decades to come:

‘Imagine in 40 years time when I look back and think why didn’t I take all these opportunities or go to these events and make memories because I felt cr*p about my body?

‘It’s all a state of mind.’

The 25-year-old concluded her post by saying she has a new resolution for 2020.

‘I’m going to make a conscious effort to live in the moment and enjoy it and the last thing that’s going to hold me back is the fear of what other people think of my body,’ Kate said.

Her post resonated with thousands of her followers, many of whom said they were delighted she had spread the worthwhile message with them.

‘I do with myself all the time. To 2020 and not waiting to LOOK BACK to see the beauty… but to see and feel it in the present,’ one woman posted.

Another added: ‘I’m taking a page out of your book and learning to love my body better.’

This isn’t the first time Kate has shared a body-positive message with her thousands of fans.

Previously, she revealed how she started dieting in high school – when she was ‘at least 8-10kg heavier than I am now’ – because the comments from her peers began to sting:

‘One day after a teacher told me in front of all my friends that I “probably wasn’t as fit as I could be”… I decided it was time for a change,’ she said.

The 25-year-old quickly switched from ‘eating pizza every day and drinking a litre of ice coffee and never exercising’ to ‘dieting HARD’:

I had tried every diet in the book: high protein, protein only, no carbs, detoxes, juice clesnses and settled on one that I found worked and made me feel good, not eating

‘My very first diet was the “detox”, which consisted of something ridiculous like 800 calories and a DISGUSTING juice with every meal,’ she said.

‘Fast forward a few years and I had tried every diet in the book: high protein, protein only, no carbs, detoxes, juice cleanses and settled on one that I found worked and made me feel good, not eating.’

Kate said she was ‘stuck calorie counting my chewing gum, I would blend lemon, ice and spinach into a “smoothie”‘.

At her worst, Kate admitted that when a friend was about to leave her and travel to Europe for a few months, she said she told them she would be ‘so much skinnier’ when they got back:

‘I had already lost 27kg at that point. But in my head I looked no different,’ she said.

‘Plus as if he cared! He was my friend and loved me for me and not what I looked like.’

The change for Kate came in Europe, when she felt depressed at the fact that she denied herself 'any of the amazing pasta in Italy' and wine, and now she is all about body positivity

The change for the model came in Europe, when she felt depressed at the fact that she denied herself ‘any of the amazing pasta in Italy’ and any of the wine:

‘I decided to make a change,’ she said.

‘I went and got my certificates in personal training and west on to study health promo and nutrition at university.’

Now, she is an ambassador for healthy eating and body positivity, as well as a model – and she is glowing as a result.

Drink plenty of water, get enough sleep and surround yourself with loving and supportive people,’ Kate told FEMAIL of her health and fitness rules.

‘Taking care of your insides radiates out.’
