Police arrest two men after a car ‘was driven at a crowd of rugby fans’ leaving Gloucester’s Kingsholm Stadium after a win over Wasps

Two men have been arrested after a car was reportedly driven towards a crowd leaving a rugby match.

Police were called to Gloucester’s Kingsholm Stadium shortly after the home side’s 25-9 Gallagher Premiership victory over Wasps on Saturday amid reports a car was driven at supporters leaving the ground.

Police said the driver then got out of the car and threatened people with a baseball bat before being restrained by an off-duty special constable and members of the public.

No-one was injured during the incident which occurred at around 5pm. 

A 27-year-old man is being held by police on suspicion of driving, public order and drugs offences, while a 47-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of drugs offences.

The rugby club said: ‘Following the incident that took place outside the stadium just after the match today, we just wanted to say a big thank you to Gloucestershire Police for their swift action and we hope any fans involved are ok.’

Gloucestershire Constabulary have confirmed that this was an isolated incident and not terrorism related.
