Police reveal some of the horrifying weapons seized on streets in one week

Disturbing pictures show just a fraction of the terrifying arsenal of weapons being carried around the streets of Britain which were seized by police in a single week.

The haul, including weapons confiscated from suspects as young as 14, is a graphic illustration of the knife crime epidemic.

It comes after shocking figures were published last week showing that knife crime is at the highest level since comparable records began.

Police recorded 39,598 offences involving a knife in England and Wales in 2017.

This is more than 100 a day and a 22 per cent increase on 2016, according to the figures.

A police dog called Bella helped find an array of deadly weapons in Streatham, south London, including a machete, a zombie knife and two smaller blades.

They were ditched by an offender as he was chased and then arrested by officers who had seen him openly carrying a large machete at 11.45pm on Tuesday, April 24.

A 14-year-old boy was spotted walking around the streets of South Kilburn in north-west London with an axe tucked in the waistband of his trousers last Saturday.

And two huge knives were recovered from a gang on an estate in Lambeth, south London, on Tuesday after a member of the public rang police to say they were acting suspiciously.

Figures released by Scotland Yard yesterday show that there were 35 fatal stabbings in London alone in the first three months of the year. Eight of the victims were teenagers.

The capital has seen a 44 per cent surge in killings over the past year.

Police say the haul of knives illustrates the value of their controversial stop-and-search powers.

Other weapons found include an 18in machete seized from a 19-year-old man after a fight broke out in Wolverhampton at 4pm Wednesday, April 25.

A boy of 16 was found strolling around the streets of Hackney, East London, with a 15in hunting knife tucked down his trousers at 11am on Thursday, April 26.

The following day, a man was arrested in the Vale of Glamorgan in South Wales for possessing a rainbow Karambit knife, which has a folding curved blade resembling a claw.

The same day police stopped a 17-year-old boy on a rush-hour train in Grays, Essex, and found a 10in knife in his waistband and 20 wraps of heroin hidden in his underwear.

And last Monday officers in Harrow, north-west London, discovered a 10in meat cleaver stuffed down a man’s trousers, wrapped in a newspaper.
