  • A jury found him guilty of one count of grooming on Monday morning

An Australian Federal Police staffer who sent sick messages to his girlfriend’s 11-year-old daughter claimed his phone could’ve been hacked by his ex-wife.

The 49-year-old man, who has not been named, denied sending the young girl the inappropriate messages – in which he told her he ‘wanted to see her nude body’ – on Instagram in April 2018.

Despite his denial the man was found guilty via a jury of one count of grooming at the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory on Monday.

The man, who had held a communications role with the AFP, sent a series of illicit messages to the girl on social media.

He wrote: ‘I want to see your nude body’, before adding: ‘Yes or no?’ The Canberra Times reported.

The man then persisted and asked the girl: ‘Do you like me the same way I like you?’ and then questioned if the girl ‘liked being with him’.

He also complimented the girl, stating he ‘liked’ her ‘very short skirt’.

The man rebuffed the allegations and instead suggested his ex-wife could have sent the messages from his account.

He also said the victim’s brother, who he said had shown a dislike for him, could have been the culprit.

Prosecutors refuted his claims and labelled the suggestion his phone had been hacked as ‘ludicrous’.

The unidentified man was unable to be present when the jury delivered their verdict as he had been admitted to hospital as an involuntary inpatient on Friday.

The man’s sentence will be decided by the Supreme Court at a later date.
