Pop star turned swimming sensation Cody Simpson gives fans a behind-the-scenes look at his insane workout program after his Olympic dream took a hit at the Aussie nationals

  • Simpson shared workout with 5million followers
  • Shows dedication toward making Olympic team
  • Has plenty of work to do after nationals failure

Australian pop star turned swimmer Cody Simpson is making waves on Instagram as he showed off his intense workout program to make the Paris Olympics despite recently bombing out at the national championships.

Simpson, who has been swimming competitively since 2019, has been actively sharing his fitness journey with his five million Instagram followers by giving them a glimpse of his gruelling routine.

Simpson’s workout regimen in the video consists of four exercises, all of which are focused on building his back muscles.

The first involves barbell rows with a staggering 80kg of weight, plus the bar. The second exercise is the weighted chin-up, with Simpson adding an extra 30kg to his weight belt for an additional challenge.

The third exercise targets his core muscles with weighted sit-ups. Holding a 10kg weight plate, he twists and extends his body to engage his oblique muscles in addition to his abs.

Simpson is hoping to emulate his Olympic hero partner Emma McKeon (pictured together) and make a splash at the Paris Games in 2024

Finally, Simpson finishes his workout with one-armed lat pulldowns, targeting his latissimus dorsi, trapezius, and rear deltoid muscles.

‘The destination is the journey, how it shapes you, helps you grow,’ he posted.

‘Indispensable tools and lessons of perseverance I will utilise throughout my life in the future as a musician, businessman, friend  and human being.

‘Regardless of the outcome, I’m so grateful for what my journey as a swimmer is teaching me.

The video follows Simpson’s disappointing performances at the Australian Swimming Championships held at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre in April.

Simpson failed to secure a spot in the final of the men’s 100m freestyle event, ultimately finishing as the 17th fastest swimmer overall after competing in the B-Final.

He also finished eighth in the 100m butterfly at the same event.

His below-par performances at the national championships show that he has plentyof work ahead of him if he wants to secure a coveted spot on the plane to the Games in 2024.

The former musician also recently penned a heartfelt tribute to his Olympic swimmer girlfriend Emma McKeon on the occasion of their first anniversary.

In a romantic gesture, Cody shared the poem to his Instagram audience.  Accompanied by an artsy photograph of Emma gazing out of a window seemingly topless, Cody expressed his deep love for her.
