Pregnant woman, 22, and her unborn baby are killed in a crash ‘sparked by road rage’ after her car swerved off the road and slammed into a pole

  • Jade Lewis, 22, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident which occurred on the 2400 block of West Esplanade Avenue at around 12.30pm
  • Her unborn baby was also said not to have survived 
  • Both Lewis and another female driver had been driving east bound on West Esplanade Avenue when her Chevrolet sedan swerved off the road and hit a pole 
  • The second vehicle – a silver SUV – lost control and struck a second power pole at the intersection of West Esplanade Avenue and Lake Trail
  • Police may charge the woman from the second vehicle

A 38-week pregnant woman and her unborn child died when their car tragically crashed into utility pole in a massive accident in New Orleans that may have involved road rage, police say.

Both Lewis and another female driver had been driving east bound on West Esplanade Avenue when the pregnant woman’s gray Chevrolet sedan swerved off the roadway and struck a power pole, a press release from the Kenner Police Department states. 

The second vehicle – a silver SUV – lost control and struck a second power pole at the intersection of West Esplanade Avenue and Lake Trail, cutting the pole in half. 

Police say the driver of that vehicle has been treated at the scene.

Lewis and her unborn child were pronounced dead at the scene

The driver – an unidentified female – has been transported to a local hospital and charges against her are pending, Kenner PD spokesman Lt. Michael Cunningham explained to NOLA.com. 

The police spokesman also shared that the unborn child did not survive the crash.

Authorities are still investigating the crash and are interviewing witnesses.
