Princess Eugenie tipped to wear York tiara at her wedding

With wedding preparations officially kicking off this week, there is mounting speculation surrounding Princess Eugenie’s choice of dress and bridesmaids.

But some royal-watchers have already turned their attention to what bling the bride will wear for her big day.

Following the news of Eugenie’s engagement to wine merchant Jack Brooksbank on Monday, royal bloggers are speculating that the Princess will follow in her mother’s footsteps by donning the dazzling diamond-studded headpiece.

Known unofficially as the York Diamond Tiara, it had its first outing at the 1986 wedding of Eugenie’s parents, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson.

Despite rumours that the diadem was on loan from a friend of the Duchess, it was later reported to be a gift from the Queen and Prince Philip.

Commissioned from Mayfair jewellers Garrard & Co., it is made up of intricate diamond-covered leaves and diamond collets mounted in platinum, according to The Royal Order of Sartorial Splendour blog.

It came with a matching set of jewellery consisting of a bracelet, earrings and necklace – a rarity, according to the blog, who report that English queens have traditionally gifted their daughters-in-law pieces from their own existing collections.

The Duchess went on to wear the tiara on a number of occasions including a banquet in Canada, a 1988 tour of Australia

Few details have been released about Eugenie’s upcoming nuptials, but she is set to tie the knot with former Mahiki manager Jack Brooksbank in the autumn at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor.

The date has not yet been announced, but the youngest daughter of Prince Andrew said in a BBC interview on Monday night that planning would begin in earnest this week.
