Photos show the white mini van with a trailer attached lying on its side next to the steam train with up to 200 passengers on the train, according to 9News.

The wooden carriage appears to be smashed while the window of the driver’s side of the van had been shattered.

Passenger Laurie Harris told Fairfax Media he saw the van ‘hurtling down the hill’ before ‘colliding with the train’ where there were about six passengers in the carriage that was hit.

‘The van veered left and was pulled about 50 metres along the tracks, derailing one of the carriages,’ he said.

‘The carriage was smashed up and there was glass everywhere. I reckon it would be a write-off.’

Mr Harris said there was a doctor and nurse on board the steam train who helped with injuries.

GLV Coaches manager John Li told Daily Mail Australia the bus was full of Chinese tourists and was travelling from Melbourne Airport to Menzies Creek train station before the collision.

Mr Li said the bus driver was not injured and some tourists received minor injuries.

The manager would not comment on what caused the collision.
