Real Madrid ‘plotting £145m Kylian Mbappe approach in the last 48 hours of the transfer window’

Real Madrid ‘plotting £145m Kylian Mbappe approach in the last 48 hours of the transfer window’ with PSG star’s international team-mate Karim Benzema ‘messaging him regularly’ to convince him to come to Spain

  • Kylian Mbappe has been strongly linked with a move away from PSG this summer
  • The 22-year-old forward has 10 months left on his contract with the French club
  • Reports in Spain say Real Madrid will attempt to sign him from August 30
  • Karim Benzema has reportedly been messaging Mbappe over a Real transfer

Real Madrid are eyeing up the ‘signing of the decade’ in securing a deal for PSG forward Kylian Mbappe during the final 48 hours of the transfer window, according to reports.

Mbappe has been heavily linked with a move away from PSG this year with the French forward’s contract expiring at the end of the current season – and the Ligue 1 giants could risk losing the 22-year-old on a free transfer next summer.

PSG have remained steadfast in their determination to keep Mbappe despite his contract situation, after securing the high-profile free signing of Lionel Messi from Barcelona earlier this summer.

But according to Spanish news outlet AS, Real Madrid will start their approach for Mbappe on August 30 – the day before the transfer window ends – in order to make him their marquee signing of the summer for a fee between £111million and £145m.

The report adds that Real forward Karim Benzema, who starred up front at Euro 2020 with France alongside Mbappe this summer, is messaging the young forward frequently and is urging the PSG star to switch Paris for Madrid.

The LaLiga giants have also reportedly told Mbappe not to make any moves that would anger PSG and their president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, as the tactic of forcing a move away would not work well with the French club.

In the past, PSG have been defiant in refusing to sell their biggest stars in the transfer window when they attempt to force away.

The likes of Neymar, Marco Verratti and Adrien Rabiot are all said to have been denied moves when they have tried to take matters into their own hands, with the former going missing at the start of pre-season training in 2019 with the ambition of securing a return to Barcelona.

During the presentation of new marquee man Messi, PSG president Al-Khelaifi insisted that Mbappe was not for sale and has no excuse to leave the French club.

Al-Khelaifi claimed earlier this month: ‘Everyone knows the future of Mbappe. He is a PSG player.

‘Kylian is very competitive, he wants to win, he has publicly said that he does not want to leave the team and there are no doubts or excuses of any other kind. Mbappe stays’.

But those words have reportedly angered Mbappe, according to AS, with the French forward receiving positive signs from Real regarding a new transfer this summer.

Mbappe, meanwhile, continued his fine start to the season by netting in PSG’s 4-2 victory over Brest on Friday night, even though Messi was not deemed ready enough to make his Ligue 1 debut this weekend.

After Ander Herrera had opened the scoring for the French giants with a shot from the edge of the area, Mbappe headed home a second before half-time to double the advantage for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Franck Honorat pulled a goal back for Brest before the break but Idrissa Gueye re-established PSG’s two-goal advantage late on and while former Huddersfield striker Stevie Mounie grabbed another consolation for Brest, Angel Di Maria fired home late on to secure the points.

The strike was Mbappe’s first goal of the season after assists in PSG’s first two league games of the campaign against Troyes and Strasbourg earlier this month.
