Residents fume as it’s revealed the construction of Sydney’s embattled light rail project has caused buildings to CRACK

  • Residents are complaining of sleepless nights and constant loud light rail works
  • Workers repeatedly digging up paths close to homes has caused mayhem
  • Locals said bricks fences are about to collapse and fear there is no end in sight

Residents are furious as they claim Sydney’s light rail project has left their properties cracked and falling apart.

The $2.1 billion light rail project, which has been delayed 12 months, is set to open in December but works are still frantically underway in Sydney’s south and residents are not happy.

Continual excavation near homes to fix a light rail related power line has left paths torn up and patchy, creating a dangerous tripping hazard for residents nearby.

Kingsford resident Elias Reuben claims his solid brick wall is near collapse as a result of the excavation work.

Mr Reubern has complained to builders of the Light Rail project, Acciona, but he is not the first to raise issues surrounding the delayed, and often invasive, works.

In June a barefoot woman was filmed screaming at construction workers on shift during the night near Prince of Wales Hospital.

She claimed she had been ‘living in a construction site for two years’, the late night works were keeping her awake and that she had been ‘driven insane’.

‘I’ve rung the construction complaint line more than 100 times. Do I get any satisfaction? No,’ she screamed.

The woman claimed she had seen workers stay as late as 4am in the morning.

The new project will travel between Randwick to Circular Quay and the government has promised it will cut commuter’s travel times but document released by Transport for NSW showed they had no idea what effect it would actually have.

When the construction project began back in 2015 the costs were expected to be around $1.6billion and to finish before March of this year.

Costs have since blown out exponentially and the light rail isn’t planned to be officially opened until December 2019, but there is no guarantee this will be the case.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Transport for NSW for comment.
