Return of the Mac! Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac makes his return to Seven after a month away on paternity leave

Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac has returned to screens after taking a month break from his role on the show to focus on full-time fatherhood.

The presenter, 42, was in good spirits as she donned a Santa hat while he showed off his dance moves during a live segment from a Christmas dance party.

‘Unapologetic main character energy,’ he wrote over the video.

Sam announced that he was stepping away from his on-air duties in December while taking paternity leave.

Sam’s decision was to allow his stylist partner Rebecca James, 35, to return to the workforce for the first time since giving birth.

Speaking to 7Life, Sam said he is looking forward to spending quality time with Margot, who recently started walking.

‘It’s my turn to be getting Margot up, feed her and basically becoming her personal assistant/servant,’ Sam joked.

‘Margot’s changed so much even in the past couple of months. So it’s super exciting to have some proper quality time with her.’

'Unapologetic main character energy,' he wrote over the video

In an interview with New Idea magazine last month, Sam also praised Sunrise for being so supportive, saying he was ‘so grateful’ for the ‘opportunity’ to take time off for his family.

‘I have worried about being one of those parents who are too busy with work to fully experience all the milestones with my child,’ he explained.

‘I absolutely love my job, but I am often away from home. I’m already noticing what I miss in Margot’s development,’ Sam admitted.

Sam will be replaced by Sunrise presenter Katie Brown during his time away.

Sam and Rebecca welcomed Margot in September 2022, two years after they started dating.

Announcing the joyous news at the time, Sam wrote: ‘This is a love I never even knew existed. I’m overwhelmed and still processing it all right now. My girls. Wow.’
