There has been much speculation on the future of WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre, with the Scottish Warrior’s contract on the brink of expiring before this year’s WrestleMania.
Talks have been ongoing between WWE and the former WWE Champion, but a new deal is yet to be confirmed for the 38-year-old.
However, in a new update from Fightful Select, it appears the two parties have more time to come to an agreement than previously believed.
According to the report, McIntyre is scheduled to compete at this year’s WrestleMania in April, because his contract was extended.
It’s being claimed that due to periods of injury and inactivity, some additional time was added to his current deal, which takes the contract past WrestleMania.

The report said: ‘Fightful Select has confirmed that McIntyre’s deal now extends past WrestleMania, and that some injury and inactivity time was added to the deal in order to get it there.’
It also goes on to confirm that there is a mutual interest in agreeing on a new longer-term deal, but nothing has been agreed between the two parties.
Adding: ‘Sources near McIntyre claim that there have been conversations between the two sides, and it appears as if they want to get a deal done. However, they also claim that one isn’t done, in place, and that nothing has changed on that front.’
McIntyre has played a prominent role in recent WWE TV, inserting himself into the World Heavyweight Title picture after giving his character a darker side and turning ‘heel’.
The Scot has used CM Punk’s unfortunate injury to play into his new persona, and a t-shirt plugged by McIntyre showing him on top of a gravestone indicating the end of Punk’s WrestleMania main event dream has been one the company’s top sellers.

Next weekend he will step into the Elimination Chamber at WWE’s huge event in Australia as one of the favourites to earn a title shot against Rollins at WrestleMania.
Rollins is set to play a key role in the WrestleMania storyline between Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns and The Rock, but is still expected to defend his title, with McIntyre tipped for another championship run.
In 2020, McIntyre became the first-ever British WWE Champion when he defeated Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania.
However his moment in the sun was tainted due to the fact that it came in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, and won the championship in an empty arena.
