Rove McManus plots TV comeback as the triple Gold Logie winner ‘readies new music show’… after being slammed as ‘elitist has-been’ for ‘bullying’ Voice rant

He was once one of the biggest stars on Australian television.

And now industry insiders are suggesting that Rove McManus may be plotting a comeback.

Rumours are swirling that the 49-year-old former tonight show host is readying a new music show.

Rove’s company, Roving Enterprises, the team behind  Channel 10’s The Project, are keen to produce an MTV-like program reports music industry blog Mixdown.

According to the report local networks were impressed with Rove’s company after their hugely successful job producing this year’s ARIA Awards.

The news comes after McManus was slammed for his ‘elitist’ take on the recent Voice referendum.

The comedian revealed to The Project panel that he had ‘got mad’ at a meeting last month, saying the Voice had been ‘manipulated’.

‘What are we doing to ourselves? This is a real moment where we can be proud and show what a wonderful country this is.’

But One Nation leader Pauline Hanson is among the Aussies leading the backlash against his remarks, calling it a ‘last ditch effort to bully voters’.

‘You would think the Yes campaign would have learned by now, Aussies are sick of celebrity bullies and tomorrow they will head to the polls to Vote No to their Voice of Division,’ Ms Hanson posted on X.

‘Why would anybody take advice from Rove McManus or The Project panel on how to vote?’ wrote another.

‘Stop influencing our personal lives,’ posted another person.

Rove became a huge star on Australian TV in 2000 when he landed his own self-titled TV show, Rove Live, which had been picked up by Network Ten following a brief stint on Channel Nine.

Rove was just 26 when he started hosting the variety show, and he was destined for big things, with many comparing him to big names such as Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien.

It was around this time Rove met his first wife, Belinda Emmett, an actress known for her role on Home and Away.

Tragically, Belinda passed away from breast cancer in November 2006 at the age of 32, just 18 months after marrying Rove.

Following his wife’s death, Rove opted to take some time out from the public eye, but returned to TV the following year.

He later married actress Tasma Walton, in 2009, and the couple are parents to a eight-year-old daughter
