Russell Crowe shares tribute to grieving fan whose late mother watched Gladiator every Christmas for the past 22 years

Russell Crowe has shared a tribute to a Gladiator fan who lost her mother last year. 

The Oscar winner, who starred in the historical drama film in 2000, was left touched on Sunday after a shared a heartbreaking message on Twitter. 

’22 years ago today i got Gladiator on DVD. For the last 22 years straight it’s been our Christmas day movie,’ she wrote.

‘Me and my mum loved it. I lost her to Covid late last year, so today I’m sitting down and carrying on the tradition alone. Thanks for the memories Russell Crowe,’ she added.

Russell, 58, tweet back hours later: ‘Merry Christmas. Sorry for your loss.’ 

Fans immediately praised Russell for showing such kindness, with one tweeting: ‘So nice of you to take the time and reach out to her. I am sure that made her day and made being without her mum a little easier to take today.’

Rosie was living on the streets in Potts Point for decades and was known by locals for her vibrant personality and kindness. 

Russell, who lived in Kings Cross for many years, told The Daily Telegraph on Wednesday that Rosie’s passing had a profound impact on him and his family. 

‘Whenever I saw Rosie, I’d give her a hug and slip her some cash and ask how she was going,’ he said.  

The star also recalled how Rosie would always ask about his children, Charles, 18, and Tennyson, 16, whenever they ran into each other on the street. 

‘She was a lovely soul, her hugs were deep and warm. I will miss her,’ he said.
