The announcement came nearly five years after the last film was released. The first one came out in 2012. According to Variety, the plot of the series takes place several years after the occurrences of the last film.

As Bumper, Adam originally played Rebel’s character Fat Amy’s love interest.

In the first comedy, the character began as the lead of a Barden University a cappella group, The Treblemakers, before stepping away to become a backup singer for John Mayer. The second film saw him return to the school to work as a security guard.
