A schoolteacher has opened up about the moment she thought she would be killed after being allegedly rammed by an irate truck driver – who then confronted her and a friend with a hammer.

Leigh Mahady, 62, and Julie Dougherty, 60, said they were tailgated by a truck while driving to Melbourne Airport on Saturday afternoon.

Terrifying footage allegedly shows the truck driver charge at Ms Mahady while brandishing a hammer after running them off the road. The driver then appears to stand over Ms Mahady.

‘He threatened that he knew my number plate, knew where I live and would come and get me,’ she said.

The truck driver allegedly chased after the women as they tried to escape, smashing their vehicle with his hammer and then throwing it at the car.

The women claim the truckie began tailgating and beeping his horn before stopping to their side and pulling his finger across his neck, allegedly signalling that they were ‘going to die’.

Investigators said they believe the man may have been working during the attack.

Police have been told the truck hit the side of the car, pushing it towards a concrete barrier causing damage to the tyres, side mirror and doors.

The aggressive driver rammed the car for a second time before pulling in front, according to reports.

After the truckie drove off along Wildwood Road and turned into Blackwells Road in Wildwood, the women got out of the car to inspect the damage.

The police statement said the women were examining the vehicle when the truckie  approached them holding a hammer and a stick.

He ran towards the driver but did not strike her but pushed the passenger to the ground as she tried to run away, police said.

The truckie told the women to get back in the car and then proceeded to strike the vehicle multiple times, causing further damage, according to the police statement.

The man reportedly lost control of the hammer and it fell into the back seat as the women reversed away.
