Sheffield motorist smashes bus window with a hammer on busy street

Shocking moment motorist smashes bus window with a hammer on busy street while still sitting in his car

  • Man in black car pulled up alongside Stagecoach bus near Sheffield city centre
  • He hit front side window three times before glass shattered, yesterday at 3pm
  • Car’s occupants got out moments earlier; they broke into bus and stole its fire extinguisher, according to reports

A motorist has been filmed driving up alongside a bus and smashing its front window on the driver’s side with a hammer.

Shocking footage shows a black car pull up next to the Stagecoach bus on London Road, near Sheffield city centre, shortly after 3pm on Thursday.

On his approach, the car driver is already holding a sledgehammer out of his open window.

Staying in his seat, the motorist then strikes at the front side window of the stationary bus in the opposite lane three times – and on his fourth attempt, the glass shatters.

Meanwhile, a man on the bus – possibly its driver – can be seen gesturing furiously at the attacker.

Moments earlier, the car’s occupants are reported to have got out and smashed the bus windscreen before breaking into it and stealing a fire extinguisher – and using it to then continue their attack on the window.

Earlier, a man was reported to have crashed his car into several other vehicles on Abbeydale Road before getting out and brandishing a hammer.

Other reports say a car was seen driving ‘erratically’ on nearby Boston Street, including travelling on the wrong side of the road.
