Sharing a sweet picture of them together on Twitter in April, the award-winning actress revealed the word is just a cute nickname for her fiancé.

She wrote: ‘Every time I call him my hubby people presume we are married, it’s just a nickname & I’ll let u know when we decide to get married.I will want you all wearing hats please so here is me pouting with the “fella”.’

Sheridan sent fans into a frenzy again that month after referring to Jamie as her ‘hubby’ in a loved-up bank holiday snap.

The actress then mysteriously deleted the post just an hour later, after receiving hundreds of comments from fans asking if she had actually tied the knot.

A representative for Sheridan later denied speculation they had married, telling MailOnline: ‘Sheridan has not married Jamie. She often jokingly calls Jamie “husband”, and although they are engaged to be married, they haven’t yet set the date.

‘Sheridan is preparing for rehearsals for Joseph at the London Palladium, having recently finished filming Barking Murders for the BBC.’

Jamie proposed to the actress with a £10,000 ring in April 2018, just three months after wooing her on dating app Tinder.

A source told The Sun: ‘Jamie is very serious about her. He has introduced Sheridan to his mum already.

‘She doesn’t wear the ring on her finger, she’s got a necklace. She wears it there because she doesn’t want people to see that she’s got a ring.’

The actress previously told The Times that she has ruled out setting a wedding date and his committed to breaking some of the habits she picked up following the tragic death of her devoted father Colin in 2016 – among them a growing collection of tattoos.

‘No, no, definitely not. Definitely not,’ she said of potential wedding plans. ‘Taking it slowly. We got engaged quickly, but we’re enjoying being engaged. It’s nice. There’s no rush for things like that.

‘We’re just going to enjoy our time in the country. No more tattoos and no more dogs. I’ll probably stick to the tattoos.’

Colin’s death from cancer opened the floodgates to a tumultuous two-year period for the actress, a self-confessed ‘daddy’s girl’ who at the time was winning accolades for her performances in west end musical Funny Girl.

‘I don’t know. It just floored me with dad,’ she explained. ‘It was the first time I had ever felt that kind of grief. That pain.’

Her grief was exacerbated by the high anxiety and panic attacks she started suffering while performing in a stage adaptation of Hollywood classic Legally Blonde, in which she took the lead as vacuous fashionista turned law student Elle Woods.

Allegations of excessive drinking followed, and Sheridan admits the shock of losing her father threatened to derail a hugely successful career.

‘To be honest, I’d kind of given up’ she said. ‘I didn’t really care because all I cared about was my dad. It put everything into perspective. I thought, “Oh, I’m going to give it all up” and I covered myself in tattoos, like an idiot.’

Sheridan later pulled out of Funny Girl following the devastating death of her father in 2016, but returned to screens on Christmas Eve in the TV adaptation of David Walliams’ book Ratburger.

Speaking on the Jonathan Ross show of the tough time, she recalled: ‘I hate it and I always think ‘The show must go on’ and I hate letting anyone down but I think the public understood in a way that you can’t choose when these things happen.

‘It was a gradual build up when my dad got diagnosed and I just couldn’t continue, I lost my mind, I completely did to the point where people were stopping me in the street and cuddling me because people understand that, it’s just life.’

MailOnline has contacted a representative for further comment.
