Shocking moment armed thug robs an elderly man at gunpoint

Police are hunting an armed bandit who robbed a group of people at gunpoint before brutally bashing an elderly man.

Footage shows the thug point a gun at the heads of his victims during a late-night ambush in Sunshine, in Melbourne’s west, on Tuesday.

The bandit sprang from behind a dumpster and tried to force the group to let him into a building before attacking a man in his 70s, leaving him with a fractured skull.

The man was hit in the head, chest and arm with the gun during the brutal attack, and the bandit fled with a mobile phone that was later recovered,The Herald Sun reported.

Police have released CCTV images of the shocking hold-up, and of a car believed to have been used in the robbery.

The vehicle is a 2009 VE Holden Commodore station wagon with New South Wales registration plates.

Detective Inspector Steve Clark said they are hoping to find the car and get the offender off the streets.

‘We’re confident it’s connected to this offence. We just don’t know where it is,’ he said.

‘We just need to lock this bloke up. This is unnecessarily violent. It’s just unacceptable.’

Police are hunting a man described as Caucasian, 182cm tall, of a thin build, with light-coloured eyes.

He wore a dark-coloured balaklava, dark loose-fitting pants, a dark windcheater, and running shoes.
