Shocking pictures have revealed massive piles of waste that have been dumped near homes in north London.
Among the junk dumped in an area of scrap land near Angel Road station in Edmonton are old mattresses, worn and broken furniture, toy cars and even a bathtub.
It has been dubbed the ‘river of rubbish’ by furious residents, who say it has been there for more than a month.
Although Enfield Council urge residents to report instances of fly-tipping on council-owned land, the waste is yet to be cleared.
The council’s website says dumped rubbish that is obstructing the street will be removed within four hours on working days – and otherwise, officials aim to clean it up within five days of receiving a report.
The lack of action prompted a Twitter user to contact Kate Osamor, the MP for Edmonton.
Alongside a picture, he wrote: ‘This vast river of rubbish is in your constituency. Near Angel Road Station. What is being done about it?’
