Deion Sanders was the subject of a brutal Saturday Night Live skit which poked fun at the Colorado Buffaloes’ huge overtime loss to Stanford Cardinal earlier in the day.

Home fans were left in tears in Boulder on Saturday night after Sanders’ team somehow surrendered a 29-0 halftime advantage to slip to 4-3 this season, having initially started 3-0.

It went down as the biggest blown lead in Colorado history, the biggest comeback in Stanford history and the largest post-halftime turnaround ever in Pac-12.

And on the back of their miserable evening, Sanders and the Buffaloes were mocked on the latest SNL instalment, with actor Kenan Thompson playing a spoof of Coach Prime alongside ‘Weekend Update’ anchor Colin Jost on NBC.

Dressed in a white CU hat, a white Colorado sweatshirt and sunglasses, Thompson lampooned Sanders and his trademark confidence despite the humiliating defeat against Stanford.

‘We just keep winning man,’ he said while imitating Coach Prime. ‘Every game, every minute… We winning at life.’

‘Yeah… you’re also 4-3, so you have lost a few,’ Jost replied.

‘Colin, look at me, man,’ Thompson responded. ‘What about me makes you think that I care about what you think about me?

‘You don’t understand that my team has it all man. Coaching? Genius. Offense? Explosive. Defense? Trying. It’s a complete package, man.’

‘You’ve obviously turned the program around,’ Jost added. ‘But it’s not perfect. I mean, just last night you lost to Stanford in double overtime.’

‘Wasn’t that crazy?’ the SNL version of Sanders said. ‘Man, we went up 29 to nothing at the half, so I went home and fell asleep. I woke up this morning as shocked as anyone.

‘Nobody’s perfect. Name one team that’s undefeated.’

After Jost named several, Thompson said: ‘See that’s exactly my point’.

The parody also played on Sanders’ move from Jackson State to Colorado, with Thompson saying about the former: ‘I truly believe that God called me there, and he said, “This is your destiny.”‘

Jost replied: ‘Right, and then three years later you went to Chicago, I mean Colorado.’

‘Yeah, that’s right,’ the Coach Prime spoof said. ‘Because God called me again and was like, “My bad.” And then he showed me the promised land of Colorado.’

After their devastating collapse on Saturday, the real Sanders bemoaned Colorado’s ‘foolishness… complacency… (and) flatout ridiculousness.’

‘I am truly upset, I am truly disturbed,’ he said. ‘From youth I don’t remember being 29-0 up in a football game and losing.’
