An international sports star was questioned by police last week over claims they carelessly infected a lover with HIV.

Police are investigating the claims as a case of grievous bodily harm and the star could be facing life in prison if convicted.

According to the Sun on Sunday, they were voluntarily brought in for questioning on February 12.

The probe began in 2015 when a complainant came forward after having a relationship with the star between 2013 and 2014.

A source told the Sun on Sunday that the star denies the claims but is worried about being charged.

They said: ‘You can see the toll it has taken on them. They have started to lose a lot of weight.’

The star could be convicted of either ‘reckless’ or ‘intentional’ transmission.

For a reckless transmission conviction the star must have known they had HIV, understood how it spreads and still failed to use a condom.

Thames Valley Police’s Complex Case Unit officers are seeking medical records to confirm if the star knew about their condition before the relationship began in 2013.
