Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick is ruled out for weeks after having emergency appendectomy surgery but Pittsburgh receives boost as TJ Watt is activated from IR

The Pittsburgh Steelers will be without pro bowl safety Minkah Fitzpatrick for several weeks after he underwent an emergency appendectomy on Saturday.

Fitzpatrick reportedly did not feel well during practice and tests showed that he needed to undergo the appendectomy as quickly as possible, according to ESPN.

Pittsburgh also reactivated star pass rusher T.J. Watt from injured reserve following his recovery from pectoral surgery.

When Cincinnati Bengals’ quarterback Joe Burrow underwent an appendectomy, he was side lined for two and a half weeks before returning to practice.

Fitzpatrick has only missed one game this season, against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Week 6 because of a knee injury. He was also placed in the concussion protocol ahead of a Week 4 matchup against the New York Jets, but he didn’t miss time.

Through seven games this season, the Alabama product has 45 tackles and three interceptions, one of which he returned 31 yards for a touchdown.
