Sunrise’s David ‘Kochie’ Koch spent a harrowing 30 minutes trapped in an elevator

‘I thought I was running out of oxygen!’ Sunrise’s David ‘Kochie’ Koch is left ‘terrified’ as he spends a harrowing 30 minutes TRAPPED in an elevator at Channel Seven’s HQ

Sunrise co-host, David ‘Kochie’ Koch was left ‘terrified’ after he spent a harrowing 30 minutes trapped inside an elevator at Channel Seven’s HQ on Tuesday.

In a Facebook live video, Kochie, 63, was seen dropping to his knees to ‘thank’ the heavens as the lift doors finally opened to his awaiting colleagues, Natalie Barr and Mark Beretta.

‘He’s alive, thank god he’s alive!’ the 52-year-old sports commentator exclaimed as Kochie put his palms together in a prayer position.

Natalie quickly introduced Kochie to the male lift technician, Steve who ‘saved his life’ and ultimately rescued him from the malfunctioning lift.

‘Thank you Steve. I thought I was running out of oxygen!’ David said as he clambered out of the elevator.

The dramatic scenes continued as seconds later, Kochie was seen being carried out of the lift by Mark and another male co-worker.

Moments later, Kochie shared more details about his ‘terrifying’ experience inside the lift, revealing: ‘I was yelling but no-one came!’

Kochie recently admitted that he was ‘surprised’ he signed another contract with the network last year.

Appearing on KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie O Show last month, Kochie revealed that at the end of last year he thought his ‘time was up.’

‘If people still want me and listeners decide, it’s not management,’ he explained, when asked if he plans on sticking around on the show.

‘I love the job. I thought my time was up at the end of last year I thought 16 years, they’ll want to get rid of me. And I was happy with that, that was fine.’

‘It was a bit of a surprise to re-sign.’

Kochie added that he is aware he’s got a good gig, but it’s not as important as being a ‘doctor,’ or ‘doing something worthwhile in the world.’

‘It is a bulls**t job. It’s not like being a doctor or doing something worthwhile in the world. But you can use it to help other people do things,’ he said.

At the end of last year, Kochie signed another two-year contract to stay on as co-host of the show, alongside Samantha Armytage, 42.

He’s been at the helm of the program since 2002, and his new contract sees him through until the end of 2020.
