An alleged ‘complex and clandestine’ drug lab hidden in a backyard shed has been smashed with $200,000 in cash and six kilograms of MDMA seized.

Two men, aged 56 and 29, were arrested after police stormed a property on Horning Street in Kurnell, Sydney’s south-east, on May 4. 

Along with the alleged haul of cash and drugs police say they seized more than 100kg of unrefined drug and precursor chemicals.

The alleged drug lab was discovered in a shed at the rear of the property.

Officers described it as a ‘complex clandestine laboratory’ with hundreds of items allegedly linked to the manufacture of illegal drugs seized for examination.

Police say it took five days for the lab to be dismantled by specialist officers from the Drug and Firearms Squad Chemical Operations Unit as well as NSW Fire and Rescue NSW HAZMAT teams.

The two men arrested were taken to Sutherland Police Station. 

The 56-year-old has been charged with manufacturing a large commercial quantity of prohibited drug.

After appearing at Sutherland Local Court on May 5 both men were refused bail. 

They are scheduled to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on July 7. 

Major investigations leading up to arrest were conducted by Strike Force McGeoch, which was set up in 2022 to curb the drug trade in Sydney’s south.
