  • Aldi’s Titan bar was 13grams bigger and $1.11 cheaper than the Mars Bar
  • He compared the taste of the sweet treats declaring Aldi’s Titan bar the winner
  • The man shared his findings to a Facebook group, sparking a lively discussion
  • Some agreed with him whereas others thought better of the original bar

A chocolate lover has analysed why Aldi’s Mars bar dupe is better, cheaper and bigger than the real thing, sparking a lively debate online.

Posting to popular Facebook group, Old Shops Australia, the Sydney man compared the two chocolate bars’ quality, size, and value determining that Aldi came out on top.

His post had many in the comments agreeing they preferred the supermarket’s caramel and nougat bar whereas other’s preferred the classic Mars chocolate treat.

Posting to popular Facebook group, Old Shops Australia , a Sydney shopper compared A Mars Bar and Aldi’s dupe, Titan, for quality, size, and value determining that Aldi came out on top

‘Our special Old Shops Consumer Investigation (bored, rainy day WFH) reveals the shrinkflated Mars Bar is 22 per cent smaller than Aldi’s knock-off Titan Bar and, when not on special costs over twice as much as the Aldi version,’ the man wrote in a post.

‘Shrinkflation’ is a term used to refer to items shrinking in size or quality while the price stays the same or increases.

While major supermarkets sell a 47gram Mars Bar for $2.00 at full price, the Aldi Titan bar is not only 13grams larger but less than half the cost at 89cents.

‘In our opinion the Titan Bar is a better Mars Bar in quality and value than the Mars Bar itself,’ he continued.

Dozens of fellow group members agreed saying they chose Aldi Titan bars and other dupes over big brands.

‘The Aldi version of Bounty is really good too,’ one shopper replied while another claimed: ‘The Aldi Cartwheel biscuits are waaaay better than the Wagon Wheels. Pretty sure they’re under $1 too.’

‘I’m quite a fan of a few Aldi rip offs. Their fake Milo ‘NRG Maxx’ powder is fantastic and has a really strong malted barley taste. Like you and their ‘Mars’ bars, I actively prefer the imitation,’ said a third.

‘We did this blindfolded taste test comparison last night with guests, Titan got the nod,’ a fourth commented.

Some questioned whether Aldi’s Titan bars were Australian made to which the man confirmed they were manufactured in Germany.

‘It’s made in Germany. The Germans know a bit about quality so I’d be OK putting my chocolate money in their pocket,’ he said.

Not everyone was on board with Aldi’s Mars bar dupe saying the original tasted better.

‘Bought a Titan Bar the other week, hadn’t had one in years. It’s like eating grainy sugar…it’s horrible! They used to be really nice,’ a disappointed customer recalled.

‘Mars bars are still the best. Taste much better than titan,’ a second agreed.

‘Doesn’t taste the same tho. It’s nice but taste completely different to me,’ one woman said.

‘Chocolate size is the true measure of the economy,’ joked another.
