SZA threatens legal action against those who leak her unfinished music online: ‘You are a f***ing thief’

SZA is putting people on notice that she won’t stand for thieves stealing her unfinished music and leaking it online.

While the singer-songwriter has been very open and honest about her feelings on the subject in the past, the I Hate U star reiterated her stance on social media once again, only this time she threatened to take legal action.

On Saturday, January 6, SZA took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to bash those who would steal her music before she had the chance to finish certain songs.

‘LEAKING MY MUSIC IS STEALING . THIS IS MY JOB . THIS IS MY LIFE AND MY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY,’ she wrote in all caps to let people know she means business.

‘YOU ARE A F***ING THIEF AND I PROMISE TO PUT MAXIMUM ENERGY INTO HOLDING EVERYONE ACCOUNTABLE TO THE FULL EXTENT OF THE LAW . I AM TIRED.’

SZA, 34, is taking a hard stand against anyone who steals her music and leaks it online

The Grammy winner is just one of many musical artists that have had their unfinished music leaked online, which has been a hot topic issue for SZA.

‘When people leak my songs, they ruin them. Then it’s not mine anymore; it’s actually yours,’ she declared during an interview with Variety this past November.

‘It’s something unfinished that you decided was ready to be shared.’

Leaks of her music, which at times are done to force the artist to officially release new songs, can have the opposite effect.

‘And it’s like, “F*** you. Now I’m not releasing it. Play your leak, but you’re not gonna bully me into dropping music.’

She added, ‘I’m now embarrassed by this less-than-correct version that you put out. You’ve sent me into a weird space creatively when you could have just waited for me, but you’re selfish.’

SZA (born Solána Imani Rowe) leads the pack of Grammy nominees for the upcoming ceremony with nine nominations, including Album Of The Year for SOS and Record Of The Year and Song Of The Year for her hit Kill Bill.

She previously won a Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance in 2022 for her collaboration with Doja Cat on Kiss Me More.

SZA first gained recognition through her self-released extended plays (EPs) See.SZA.Run (2012), S (2013) and Z (2014).

After signing a joint recording contract with RCA Records, SZA released her debut studio album, Ctrl (2017), which was met with critical and commercial success, including four Grammy nominations.

SZA’s second album, SOS (2022), spent its first seven weeks atop the Billboard 200 Albums Chart in the U.S., making it the longest-running number-one woman album of the decade and the first R&B album to spend its first seven weeks atop the chart since Whitney Houston’s Whitney (1987).

After falling from the top of the chart, SOS would eventually return to the number one spot for three more weeks, making it a chart topper for a total of 10 weeks.

Among the six singles released off of SOS, SZA earned her first number-one song on the Billboard Hot 100 with Kill Bill.
