Taylor Swift’s older music spikes in sales after she publicly takes issue with Scooter Braun’s $300 million purchase of her catalog

It’s safe to say Scooter Braun’s $300 million purchase of Taylor Swift’s catalog has come with mixed results.

While the 38-year-old music manager has been criticized by a number of artists in the wake of Swift, 29, venting about it in a Tumblr blog Sunday, it looks to have been a solid investment financially, as sales of her music surged as their feud made headlines Monday.

Demand for the 29-year-old singer-songwriter’s earlier work, as first reported by TMZ, was through the roof, as metrics from the Movers and Shakers chart on Amazon indicated they were selling at a much higher pace than usual and charting, in some cases.

Trending: Taylor Swift’s album sales were up in big numbers Monday amid the 29-year-old’s public feud with Scooter Braun, 38, after his purchase of her music catalog. She was snapped in NYC in April

On Monday, her 2006 self-titled debut album was up in digital sales 471 percent, hitting as high as the third spot on the list, while her 2012 record Red nabbed the fourth spot with a 433 percent increase.

Her 2008 album Fearless was up 221 percent, while her 2014 album 1989 had an 88 percent spike. (In another case of a news-maker’s work surging in popularity, Lil Nas X’s Old Town Road (Remix) had a 600 percent increase after the artist declared he’s gay.)

Swift on Sunday said that the music manager – who guides the careers of Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande and Demi Lovato, among others – has been ‘manipulative’ in ‘bullying’ her for years, and was a puppet-master in her 2016 feud with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.

‘My musical legacy is about to lie in the hands of someone who tried to dismantle it,’ Swift said of Braun, who shelled out $300 million for rights to Swift’s album catalog from Big Machine Label Group founder Scott Borchetta.

Notable names such as Halsey, Iggy Azalea and Cara Delevingne have spoken publicly in support of Swift, while Braun has been defended by Bieber, Lovato and his wife, Yael Cohen.

The singer earlier this month announced via Instagram Live her next album Lover, her seventh studio album, is due to be released August 23.

The record will be Taylor’s first on her new deal with Universal Music.
