THE NOTEBOOK: Leicester fans get the last laugh in an unlikely Premier League rivalry

THE NOTEBOOK: Leicester fans get the last laugh in an unlikely Premier League rivalry, Kelechi Iheanacho drives Brenadan Rodgers crazy despite scoring… and its time to abandon VAR for marginal offside calls

Leicester came from behind to blow Tottenham away at the King Power Stadium, as Brendan Rodgers side continued their resurgence up the Premier League table.

The Foxers had fallen behind to Rodrgio Bentancur’s early strike, before Nampalys Mendy, James Maddison, Kelechi Iheanacho gave the hosts a half-time advantage.

Harvey Barnes completed the scoring in the second half as Leicester made it an unhappy return to the dugout for Spurs boss Antonio Conte.

The result continued Tottenham’s mixed form ahead of their Champions League last-16 tie against AC Milan.

Sportsmail’s Tom Collomosse takes a look at some of the things you may have missed from the King Power Stadium.

Danny Ward does not inspire confidence in his Leicester defence in a concern for Wales

Danny Ward displays a concern for Wales boss Rob Page

With Ben Davies and Danny Ward in action, Wales boss Rob Page was in the crowd at King Power Stadium – and would have left a little worried about his goalkeeping options for the forthcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers against Croatia and Latvia next month.

Wayne Hennessey is on the bench at Nottingham Forest and Danny Ward simply does not inspire confidence among the Leicester defence.

Tricky decisions ahead for Page.

VAR use should be abandoned for marginal offsides

Until a speedier system can be developed, it is time to abandon the use of VAR for marginal offside calls.

Supporters waited an age for Rodrigo Bentancur’s opener to be given as the boffins in Stockley Park drew their maddening lines, and it was a similar story when Harvey Barnes netted for Leicester in the second half, only for it to be chalked off.

A large part of the joy of football is being able to celebrate goals with fellow fans. Take that away, and people will eventually go elsewhere.

AC Milan improving ahead of Spurs Champions League tie

In recent weeks, few defences in Europe have been as leaky as AC Milan’s but they finally seem to be getting their act together – just in time for the visit of Tottenham.

They kept a clean sheet as Olivier Giroud scored the winner against Torino on Friday, after a 1-0 defeat by Inter Milan the previous week.

Spurs probably still start favourites given Milan’s shaky form but the last-16 Champions League tie does not look quite as cut and dried as it did a fortnight ago.

Kelechi Iheanacho impresses but still drives Rodgers mad

Kelechi Iheanacho scored his third in as many games and provided another assist yet he still drives Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers wild at times.

The Nigerian is one of the Premier League’s most unusual footballers, capable of producing the sublime and the ridiculous in the same move.

So when Iheanacho managed to make such a mess of a straightforward return pass that he conceded a throw-in, it was no wonder Rodgers hurled his notebook to the ground in fury.

Leicester fans have last laugh in an unlikely rivalry

This is one of the Premier League’s unlikelier rivalries, dating back to a bad-tempered 1999 Worthington Cup Final won by Spurs, who were wound up by Robbie Savage’s antics at Wembley that day.

It was then revived during the race for the 2016 Premier League title, when Jamie Vardy and Harry Kane swapped spiky social media posts.

So it as no surprise to hear the supporters targeting one another from the start – and it was the Foxes who had the last laugh this time.
