Police will take to the streets of Victoria to expose the hidden location of speed cameras as part of their fight for better pay.

Officers have covered their patrol cars in slogans and will flash their lights to alert speeding drivers.

It comes after governments offered them a two per cent  increase in pay, just half of what police unions asked for.

In a meeting last week, Police Association secretary Wayne Gatt said 17,200 officers voted in favour of industrial action after the state government rejected the four per cent wage increase.

Speaking of the strike Gatt said it would be good to have police alerting drivers.

He said: ‘It will slow them down, but it will significantly reduce revenue for the Victorian state government.’

Along with today’s strike, officers have also vowed to stop working overtime and refuse to gather statistics for government departments except for emergencies, unless their demands are met.

This is the first industrial action taken by police since 2011.
