The Project stars Sarah Harris and Waleed Aly are left red faced over a very raunchy looking starfish

The Project’s Sarah Harris and Waleed Aly have burst into fits of laughter over a raunchy looking five-headed granulated sea star.

The TV hosts couldn’t help but see the comedic side of the marine animal, which somewhat resembles male genitalia.

Panellist Sam Taunton presented the segment on Thursday, showing a number of photos of the phallic marine creature.

‘We have some terrifying animals here in Australia but I have never seen anything as intimidating as this starfish,’ Sam said.

He then flashed photos up of the starfish, prompting shock and surprise from the desk and studio audience.

‘I did some research today and apparently it’s the only starfish that has its own Only Fans account,’ Sam said.

Red faced Waleed and Sarah got the giggles, with co-panellist Liz Ellis also making reference to an earlier remark by Jason Clare.

The show played a clip of a speech by the Parliamentarian, who boldly said during a recent speech: ‘It’s not a finger up the bum, it’s just a little prick.’

‘Is that what Jason was talking about? I don’t know. I’m just checking?’ Liz said, making the casual joke.

‘That’s more than a finger,’ Sarah replied, prompting laughter from the desk.

The granulated sea star is harmless to humans and lives in tropical waters, including in the Great Barrier Reef, off Queensland’s coast.

The lighthearted segment comes after another member of The Project team quit Ten’s struggling panel show.

Waleed and Sarah made the surprising announcement during Wednesday night’s show, offering a touching send off.

‘Occasionally there are just giants of the place that you work,’ began Aly as a somber Harris sat alongside him.

And one of them is leaving us tonight,’ he continued, before hinting that the star leaving would be comedian Sam Taunton.

‘Sam, it’s been great,’ joked Waleed, leading Taunton to look stunned.

However, Waleed then went on to clarify that star who would be leaving was one of the panel show’s founding producers, Sarah Ashley.

‘She has been here from the very beginning, explained the host. ‘And when I say that [I mean] she was here when Ruby Rose was here.’

Ashley’s CV shows she was Supervising Producer on the show since its inception in 2009.

The latest loss to The Project’s team comes after another Ten show hit the chopping block.

The network’s morning program Studio 10 was officially axed last Tuesday.

A spokesperson confirmed the last episode of Studio 10 will air on Friday, December 22, after more than a decade on Australian screens.
