The surprising job Robert Irwin hates doing on I’m A Celebrity is revealed – after he missed out on a Gold Logie win

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! Australia co-host Robert Irwin has won over  viewers with his energy and enthusiasm – but he has a surprising ‘pet hate’ about the role.

The celebrity conservationist, 20, who took over the presenting role from Dr Chris Brown earlier this year, is said to dislike having to read his lines off a teleprompter and prefers to improvise.

‘It is not his favourite part of the job. If we can get him to ad lib more, he comes off looking more relaxed on camera,’ an insider told Yahoo Lifestyle.

‘He hates teleprompter work and would like to be more off-the-cuff, which suits his style. When he gets given the chance to speak, he just fills the space.

‘It’s understandable as a lot of his previous work has been heavily improvised. Especially his work at Australia Zoo. He can hold court for hours and is genuinely engaging with his passion for animals.’

They added Robert’s natural charm and enthusiasm came out best when he was able to speak for himself, rather than follow a pre-written script.

‘We all have a pet hate in our day jobs and the people you see on our television screens are no different. He really shines when he is in his lane,’ the insider continued.

Elsewhere, another industry source said Robert was ‘struggling a little bit’ when reading off the teleprompter at the Logie Awards in Sydney on Sunday.

Irwin was the ‘hot favourite’ to win the Gold Logie at the 64th annual TV Week Logie Awards – but missed out as it was claimed by Channel Seven presenter Larry Emdur.

The reality TV star shocked fans on Sunday when he rocked up to the Logie Awards with a very surprising date – his I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here co-host Julia Morris.

The celebrity conservationist, 20, was rumoured to be bringing his mother Terri Irwin to the exclusive event, and stunned fans when he instead showed up with Julia.

Viewers quickly took to social media to discuss Robert’s choice of date, as they joked they were surprised his ‘helicopter mum’ Terri let him attend without her.

The son of Steve Irwin hit the red carpet at The Star Sydney with his I’m A Celebrity co-host Julia.

Wildlife Warrior Robert was dapper in a dark tuxedo for his red carpet turn and Julia looked ravishing in a red gown as she sashayed her way into the venue.

In June, sources told Daily Mail Australia the celebrity conservationist was expected to be accompanied by his mother and matriarch of the Irwin family, Terri, despite recent backlash from fans who think the pair are ‘joined at the hip’.
