A cat is lucky to be alive after her face was shattered when she was shot right between the eyes with a slingshot.

The black and white cat was shot between the eyes and found with the ball bearing embedded in her nose.

The cat, since named Angel, needed emergency surgery to remove the metal bearing from her shattered face.

Angel is now being treated by RSPCA vets in Canterbury, Kent, after she was found in Throwley on Thursday.

Investigating RSPCA inspector Grace Harris-Bridge said: ‘This poor cat has been targeted with what looks like a ball bearing in a callous and cruel attack.

‘When she was found by the kind member of the public who contacted us, they said they could literally hear the air passing through the nose where the metal ball had made impact and caused a nasty wound.

‘This was a horrible attack on an innocent cat and could have been fatal for Angel but miraculously, it is looking like she will pull through her ordeal.

‘We are now appealing for anyone who may have information which could help with our investigation.’

Angel was not microchipped and no owner has come forward but RSPCA staff believe she was owned because she is a ‘friendly and healthy cat.’

Beth Hixson, centre manager at the RSPCA Canterbury branch, said: ‘It looks as though poor Angel has been shot point blank in the face.

‘Unfortunately, she has a few fragments of skull bone in her head but nothing that should cause her any long term damage.

‘She will need antibiotics and care for a while but hopefully Angel has a little angel looking over her and she will make a full recovery.’
